The Wild Ones: An Interview with Zach Horvath

I’d recently started the D A I S Y V adventure and was questioning where I was going with it and what direction my life was heading, when I saw a picture on Instagram. It was taken at the top of a mountain and showed a hand holding a sticker that said Live A Great Story, with a beautiful mountain range sprawling in the background. Those four little words had a huge impact on me and made me feel so inspired and motivated, I wrote them down as a reminder to myself to do just that: Live A Great Story. Googling the phrase took me to the website. It was bursting with loads of pictures, taken by hundreds of people from all walks of life, all over the World, many with hugely inspirational stories attached, some just wanting to spread love, positivity and motivate each other. Founded by Zach, who had an idea of creating a brand that would inspire and motivate people to be themselves, but better, I loved everything that Live A Great Story was about. It’s grown in a short space of time from an idea and a few stickers, to a massive community of people taking these pictures with the slogan and meeting up to share their dreams, creative talents and inspiration in order to make a positive impact. It prompted me to continue to pursue my dream and to do it in a positive way: I now only use recycled silver in my collection and ensure that my packaging is made entirely from recycled or biodegradable materials. When I started The Wild Ones, I knew that I’d love Zach and Live A Great Story to feature along the way. It encapsulates everything that The Wild Ones aims to promote: inspiration, adventure, positivity and doing great things. I got in contact with Zach to find out more about him, the brand and the future of Live A Great Story…       Hey Zach! I’ve been following Live A Great Story for a while now and love the message behind it! Tell us a bit about how it all began.    The very beginning of LIVE A GREAT STORY starts with a seed being planted by Donald Miller’s book “A Million Miles and a Thousand Years.” The essence of the book can be summed up in his quote, “And once you live a good story, you get a taste for a kind of meaning in life, and you can’t go back to being normal; you can’t go back to meaningless scenes stitched together by the forgettable thread of wasted time.” That book planted the seed and then it was watered with travel. I took a 7 month, open-ended trip to Europe and on this adventure I realized that we’re all just humans trying to do our best. We’re from all different backgrounds, all ages, different sexes, different everything but we’re all just humans, just people trying to make our best of what we have. From there the idea evolved as I came back to the states, moved to San Diego, continued moving forward and trying / failing to make moves. The phrase evolved to LIVE A GREAT STORY and turned into a few hundred stickers and buttons, then people asked for shirts and more “Reminders” and the brand grew through these experiences into what we’re doing today : building a community focused on spreading inspiration. What’s been your favourite story so far?    My favorite stories are when the LIVE message travels across the world, connects two people and then somehow it circles back around to me. It’s amazing to see the web of connections and just how small the world is, all through a simple sticker, button or shirt. That’s why we call it magic. Throw a sticker on your phone, trust me, it’s magic.

Hey Zach! What’s been your favourite story so far?  My favorite stories are when the LIVE message travels across the world, connects two people and then somehow it circles back around to me. It’s amazing to see the web of connections and just how small the world is, all through a simple sticker, button or shirt. That’s why we call it magic. People send their thumb and point pictures in from all over the world, what’s been your favourite?    I think my favorite picture so far is this one from Machu Picchu. Or maybe this one from our Rooftop Meetup in Memphis. Live A Great Story is all about spreading inspiration and being inspired, who or what inspires you?    I’m inspired by people who are inspired. When people are moving forward, making moves and doing their thing, that inspires me do move forward and do my own thangsss. And then that ripples out. Your photo meet ups in the US look awesome! Can you tell us a bit about that and why you do them?    We like bringing people together because when you have lots of people in a space together, you can feel the energy. When you’re rubbing shoulders with other cool people, hanging out, talking, good energy spreads quickly. We focus on photography right now because it’s a great way to include a range of people from models, photographers, videographers, brands and just people who want to hang out. But we are working on more events! Do you have any plans to come to the UK or travel with your meet ups?    The hope is that people can organize their own LIVE meet ups. We just want to be a catalyst for these meet ups and to give people a formula for a successful meet up. So making a trip to the UK? Hopefully! Or at least collaborate on a meet up over the pond ?

What’s in store for the rest of 2016 and the Live A Great Story brand?    We’re looking to make some big steps to expand even more so we can spread even more inspiration with more people and more events and more stories. Basically doing what we’re doing now, just bigger! And finally, aside from Live A Great Story, do you have any mottos that you live by?    I think my main mottos are Do thangs Buy a plane ticket Get uncomfortable Add value Do stuff that you like, that keeps your interest, that fuels your fire, that builds your story. See new places, meet people from different backgrounds, understand different cultures. The fruit is out on the limb.. gotta climb out, risk comfort, seek unfamiliar. And give back! Thanks Zach!
